ChuCha Santamaria y Usted Performance

Friday, October 31, 2014, 8:00 - 10:00pm

Sofía Córdova, with collaborator and husband, Matthew Kirkland, will play a live show consisting of the pop versions of songs featured in Córdova’s various videos and performances in the exhibition.

The music in the exhibition is presented in what Córdova and Kirkland call, 'Wreckage Mixes'. During this event, they'll be playing danceable pop versions of the music they've co-written for the various performance and video works on display. Pieces will include Spanish re-workings of popular songs by Yoko Ono, Iggy Pop and Mariah Carey among others to original compositions made by consulting the tarot (in a nod to Philip K. Dick's strategy in writing Man In The High Castle), something neither Córdova or Kirkland quite know how to do. Other songs to be featured are from their 2nd album which fits into the mythology of the performance cycle on view as a long lost record made 500 years prior.

Every Night I Tell Myself I Am The Cosmos
A solo exhibition of new work by Sofía Córdova
October 11, 2014 – November 9, 2014

Every Night I Tell Myself I Am The Cosmos, a solo exhibition of new work by Sofía Córdova, describes a future located specifically around the Caribbean, where an unidentified series of events have led to the decline of current civilization--radically challenging human existence on Earth. Expanding from more personal, autobiographical investigations into the creation of self, identity and the influence of cultural constructions, this exhibition presents a darker, more global space, where she has, in her own words, “collected the relics of our past, gleaned from our current future.”
