Royal NoneSuch Gallery is looking for an enthusiastic artist or curator to join as a co-director. We are a completely volunteer-run gallery that operates on a not-for-profit model.
Royal NoneSuch Gallery is an artist-run alternative art and event space located in the Temescal district of Oakland, California. We are dedicated to creating community around art-based experiences that are thought provoking and conceptually rigorous, while also being accessible and fun. Through a framework of monthly exhibitions and related programs, we strive to maintain a dynamic schedule in which the gallery is continuously reinvented to reflect the spirit and process of an artist, specific program series, or collaboration.
Work collaboratively to produce 6-9 exhibitions and 8-11 special events per year.
Collaboratively curate programming, conduct research, do studio visits with artists, and review proposals.
Be the point person for ¼ of the exhibitions per year, which means taking on more leadership responsibilities and being the main point of communication for the exhibition.
Complete various administrative, installation, event planning, marketing/PR, and curatorial tasks for every exhibition and event.
Work on fundraising efforts, in the form of: grant-writing, crowd-sourcing campaigns, events, corporate giving, and work to innovate or brainstorm new models for fundraising.
Attend meetings (teleconferencing can be accommodated at times) to plan and administrate gallery, which happen at minimum, monthly and sometimes bi-monthly depending on need.
Send and check emails and texts regularly about programming and administrative items.
Recruit and oversee volunteers and interns.
Attend all exhibitions and events. Help with setup/breakdown of bar, bartend, assist with other duties as needed.
Work gallery hours (Sat / Sun 1-4pm) as needed (sometimes we have interns cover all hours, sometimes co-directors need to put in 1-2 shifts per exhibition).
