Residency Dates: June 3 - June 23, 2016

Special Event: Thursday, June 23, 7:00 – 9:00pm

This summer Royal NoneSuch Gallery, with the support of an Alternative Exposure grant, will transform into Royal Production Company (RPC). Four artists/collaboratives have been selected to create new video works using the gallery as a site of production during a three week residency: Bonanza, Amber Cady, Carolyn Janssen and Kate Rhoades. During the residencies each artist/collaborative will have public gallery hours and a special event. The residencies will culminate in a red carpet screening on September 16th where we’ll bring the bling at X location. After the premiere, the videos will continue to screen during regular gallery hours through early October.

First in the RPC lineup is Carolyn Janssen whose video Delete All Feelings will feature a cast of seekers and gurus invoking a trance-like exploration into an underworld of dystopian networks, uneasy rituals and speculative projections. Janssen, who typically works in large-scale digital photo collage, will be exploring the medium of video for the first time in her residency. She plans to expand her current practice of performative self portraiture and interest in digital kitsch through experiments in animation, narrative storytelling and impressionistic imagery. Drawing on influences such asAlejandro Jodorowsky, David Lynch and Miley Cyrus, the work is likely to unfold as a self-contained aesthetic system with autobiographical and surreal elements.
